I heard a great podcast today mention about how we can ask God to help us come alongside what He is already doing in the lives of our children. This got me thinking about how often I confuse my responsibility to parent my children well as a burden to make sure I do everything perfectly. I’m learning that it’s unrealistic to be able to give my children everything they need perfectly 100% of the time. I know this intellectually but often find myself in the trap of expectations that are more lofty than I can handle. Stopping to think about how I can come alongside them to support what God is already doing in their lives (developmentally, emotionally, spiritually, etc) is such a relieving idea to know I don’t have to do everything all the time, I just need to get intentional about the few things I’m doing. #caringconnectioncounseling #venturatherapist #faith #christiancounseling #positivepsychology #parenting #perfectlyimperfect

May is Maternal Mental Health Month. Every year I partner with Postpartum Support International (PSI) and The Blue Dot Project to raise awareness and support for Maternal Mental Health Resources. As many as 1 in 7 moms and 1 in 10 dad suffer from symptoms of depression and anxiety during the postpartum period. People of every age, income level, race and culture can develop Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) during pregnancy and within the first year after delivery. Let’s work together to raise awareness and help those in need find support. If you’re like me, it can be hard to feel like you’re constantly reaching out or pursuing the people in your life. That’s because pursuing without being poured into is inherently draining. No wonder we don’t want to do it. When we find the people that help fill our cups this becomes so much easier and so worth the effort! Try to spend some time today thinking through the people in your life that leave you feeling refreshed, energized or hopeful. These are the people worth the effort!
